USAID Project Highlights

USAID: From The American People

USAID’s development work focuses on the promotion of economic growth and improvements to livelihoods by assisting and empowering local populations. Sustainable Tourism often offers broad-spectrum opportunities that enable economic growth to be integrated within cluster-based activities that also address natural resource management and biodiversity conservation, together with cross-cutting objectives such as poverty reduction, gender equity, health, and local governance.

Four particularly successful USAID initiatives are highlighted below. Project summaries provide hyperlinks to PowerPoint presentations made by USAID staff at the UN-WTO Sustainable Tourism Policy Forum in October 2004, as well as to more detailed project profiles.
